Expressing Christ’s Love in Word
The rule of three—a literary tool used so that we might understand how important this is—three times we hear this man’s testimony. And yet, the rule of three is not always as much for the listener or reader to understand as it is for the speaker to understand. It seems as though, the man born blind needed to rehearse the story in order to ascertain what was really going on here. The Pharisees were never going to understand, but the man born blind desperately wanted to name the love shown for him, it just took time for the story to take root in him. Just like we learn subject matter so much more when we have to teach it, we learn the story of our faith when we speak it.
