Brethren Exercise Program on Saturday, September 12th
Don’t waste money on a gym membership. This is the ultimate workout. A few people are needed on Saturday September 12th, 9am to noon, to help pick up donated furniture for the CHO Furniture Program. Please email Karl Wilkerson () to volunteer.
Some children are already back to school, and some are preparing for their first day of the new school year. We will have a back to school blessing for students and teachers on Sunday, Aug. 30. We encourage students to bring their backpacks and teachers to join us to receive a blessing for an inspiring and fruitful year! Worship Committee
The Action/Reflection committee is hosting an all-church cooking day for the benefit of BNP. On Saturday October 17th, from 2PM to 5-6PM, we’ll meet in the church kitchen to prepare and freeze soups, chop and freeze vegetables to be used by BNP. These frozen items will be picked up from the church on Monday October 20th. Come join in the fun. Please ponder this as you think about joining us in our all church cooking outreach; have you ever been HUNGRY, underfed? Do you know anyone who is HUNGRY, underfed? In the US today, 1 in 6 people are struggling with hunger. Tonight (and every night) more than 50 million Americans won’t have enough food to eat by day’s end.
Hope you will join us in this outreach project.
Who – Senior high youth, classes 2015 (this year’s grads) thru 2019 (incoming freshmen) and their advisors – ratio recommended per church is 1 “mature” advisor/chaperone, age 22 or older, per 6 youth.
Cost – $50 if you register by August 7; $55 by Aug 21; $60 by Sept 4. You arrange your own transportation (preferably as a church group). Our money will not be refunded in the event that a hurricane closes down the park (their rules). Our plan, barring a hurricane, is to go ahead with the retreat, rain or shine.
Please let Missy know if you are attending to arrange transportation.
Accommodations – barracks style housing, with 15 beds per room. Each person should bring their own linens or sleeping bag, as well as beach “things” (modesty, please). The facility is within walking distance of the beach on the ocean side, and the pier on the Bay side.
Arrival – Friday evening after 8 pm or Saturday morning by 9 am – the price would remain the same. Please tell us in advance if you are not planning on arriving until Saturday morning. Check-out time from the housing area is 11 am on Sunday, but you are free to stay in the park. Parking in the youth camp area is limited and we are allowed 1 parking pass per 4 people.
Program – We’ll have a worship service, as well as vespers/devotion times each day. There will be plenty of free time to enjoy the ocean, beach, trails, and other recreation possibilities within the park – without leaving it for the duration of the retreat.
More details will be on MAD Youth Facebook page as they become available – or you can contact the church office for a registration form.

Sunday, August 9 is our annual Vacation Bible School Celebration Lunch. Everyone in the congregation is encouraged to attend and greet the guest families who will join us for worship and lunch. Oakton families are also encouraged to prepare a little extra carry in food so that our guests don’t have to bring anything! The meal will take place immediately following worship. Questions? Contact Debbie Seidel () or the church office.
