June 1, Teacher Appreciation Sunday
[Teacher Breakfast: 9:45]
Worship Theme: “Glory is revealed” (1 Peter 4:13) as we teach and are taught
Texts: Deut. 32:1-3 and John 14:15-21
Sermon by Matt Landes
June 8, Pentecost
[VMJ Celebration Breakfast 9:45]

Sermon: Eldad, Medad, and Moses
Theme: The Holy Spirit ordains us all into the ministry of making disciples. And as we speak the Word of life to others God is at work transforming us in the process but that doesn’t mean that everyone will be happy about that.
(When Moses was informed that Eldad and Medad were prophesying without him, he chastised the tattle-tale and said: “[I wish that] all the Lord’s people were prophets!”)
June 15, Father’s Day

June 29, Anointing Sunday
Theme: Anointing for healing and wholeness, strength, forgiveness, and faith.
Texts: Luke 10:27-37 (the Good Samaritan)

We spent 30 hours fasting and learning about the struggles of poverty. In the picture the kids are working together to cross the Amazon on a plank to get to school like hungry kids in South America who face many obstacles to ending the cycle on poverty including hunger. We spent the night in the Heifer Global Village to simulate the housing challenges of the hungry the bamboo house is similar to a home in Thailand which is where many of the girls slept.

This year we would like to make a donation to On Earth Peace in honor of our Sunday School teachers. According to their website, “We help individuals, congregations, communities, and other groups grow in peace through powerful programs of training and accompaniment. Our professional staff and network of experienced volunteers provide skills, support, and spiritual foundations for overcoming violence with the power of love. ” If you’d like to participate, make the check out to Oakton Church of the Brethren, with “On Earth Peace” in the memo line, and put it in the offering by June 1st. Find out more about On Earth Peace at www.onearthpeace.org.
