Recipe of the Month – Zucchini Pizza Bites

Serves 14-18

4 cups shredded unpeeled zucchini, drained and squeezed
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
2 eggs, beaten
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 medium bell pepper, julienne
5 medium fresh mushrooms, sliced
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

 

* Preheat the oven to 400 degree. Grease a 15 x 10 baking dish and set aside
* In a large bowl, combine the zucchini, 1/2 cup of the Cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup of the mozzarella cheese and the eggs. Mix well. Press the mixture onto the bottom and up the sides of the prepared baking dish.
* Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the crust is set and lightly browned.
* Combine the beef, onion, salt and garlic sale in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the beef until it is no longer pink, about 10 minutes. Drain, Stir in the tomato sauce and oregano. Mix well. Spoon over the crust. Sprinkle with bell pepper, mushrooms, Parmesan cheese and remaining Cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Bake for 15 minutes more, or until golden brown.
* Let stand 5 minutes before cutting. Cut into 2-inch square.

Pianist Dr. Raffi Kasparian in Concert – March 22

The Oakton Church of the Brethren Community Concert Series welcomes pianist Dr. Raffi Kasparian for a concert on Sunday, March 22 at 4 p.m.  Dr. Kasparian will perform Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and “Carnaval,” Opus 9, “Little Scenes on Four Notes,” by Robert Schumann.

No tickets or reservations are required for this free concert — just come, take a seat and enjoy!  Donations will be accepted for the outreach programs of Oakton Church of the Brethren.

About Dr. Raffi Kasparian
Dr. Raffi Kasparian has delighted audiences in solo and collaborative recitals throughout the United States, Canada and the Philippines. He has performed solos in the Kennedy Center, on WQXR Radio in New York, Maryland public radio, on PBS Television, and has performed often in the Baltimore-Washington area at such locations as the Phillips Art Gallery, Anderson House, Lyceum, Catholic University, and the University of Maryland.

He recently retired as pianist for The United States Army Chorus, the vocal counterpart of the nationally recognized The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” based at Fort Myer. Dr. Kasparian currently accompanies the acclaimed Adult Symphonic Chorus of the Fairfax Choral Society.  In addition to his performing schedule, he composes and arranges piano and choral music and coaches advanced piano students.

Dr. Kasparian obtained a Masters in Music degree from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Camp Mardela Summer Camp Schedule 2015

Camp Mardela is our district camp located on the Eastern Shore. This long-time camping favorite offers a slightly more rustic setting than Shepherd’s Spring. $50 scholarships from the congregation are available to all campers. Community Concert Series – March 22nd Performance

Raffi Kasparian, pianist, will present a concert in the sanctuary here at Oakton Church of the Brethren on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Dr. Kasparian has a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Michigan with post-doctoral studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. In addition to presenting concerts in the United States, Canada, and the Philippines, Dr. Kasparian has served as accompanist for the United States Army Chorus and the Adult Symphonic Chorus of the Fairfax Choral Society. He composes and arranges piano and choral music and coaches advanced piano students.
