Al Burgstahler plays tenor trombone.  He played in the Interlochen World Youth Symphony and was principal trombone with the University of Kansas Symphonic Orchestra.  When living in Central California Al performed in regional ensembles including the Sierra Symphony, Big Band Express, and the Ken Robinson Dixieland band.  He is currently lead trombone with the Tom Cunningham Orchestra. read more…

Vacation Bible School – That’s a wrap!

This summer, August 1st to 5th, we were blessed with 38 children who attended God’s Big Backyard.  We learned each day what it means to be in service to each other.

On Monday, we learned that Miriam SERVED her FAMILY by taking care of her brother Moses. She hid in the tall grass as she watched over him and spoke up at just the right time. A pot of grass reminded us of the secret hiding place where Miriam watched and waited.  If you watch, I’m sure God will show you many, many opportunities to SERVE your FAMILY in love each day.

On Tuesday, we learned about four men who SERVED their FRIEND by taking him to Jesus to be healed.  They went through a lot of trouble to get him there!  A hammock reminded us of the man who couldn’t walk and how his friends carried him on a mat that was a lot like this hammock.  Always remember that the best way to SERVE your FRIENDS is by bringing them to meet Jesus. read more…

Children’s Offering

Children’s offerings this year will be going to support Habitat for Humanity. The Mid-Atlantic District Church of the Brethren is sponsoring a Habitat House to be built this year in Hagerstown, MD. District wide efforts are under way to raise funds to finance and build the home in partnership with the family who will live there. For more information, visit the District website or Habitat for Washington County. Oakton contacts for this program are Debbie Seidel, Karl Wilkerson, or Bridget Beach.

Join Us for Sunday Services

You’ll feel comfortable here at Oakton Church of the Brethren where our congregation is happy to welcome you. We believe that when Jesus showed us another way of living, he intended it to nourish and hearten the entire human family.

Our worship service schedule follows the typical public school year. During the school year, a variety of Sunday School classes tailored to each age group is available at Oakton Church and the worship service is held at 11:00 a.m.

Missions

Oakton Church of the Brethren strives to listen to our congregation and community, identify what is important, and take action. Take a look and see where you feel called to reach out with the love that Jesus Christ taught us. Bring that passion to the next Action / Reflection Committee meeting and we’ll serve on that mission together. Or, if you don’t see the mission you already have a passion for, bring that to the next Action / Reflection Committee meeting and we’ll work with you to learn about and support your advocacy.

Children's Ministry

Oakton Church of the Brethren is blessed with an active children’s ministry. With over 50 children from nursery to senior high, we have programs for all ages ranging from nursery care for Sunday School and Worship times, to Senior High Youth fellowship and mission events.
